How are you doing on saving for the 20+ years you will likely spend in retirement without a paycheck?
On this website, www.CornerstoneInvestment.com, on the Links page, you’ll find a link to the AARP retirement calculator. This is a very easy to use retirement readiness calculator that will estimate your Social Security benefits for you and tell you whether your savings and savings rate, combined with Social Security, will get you the retirement income you will need. You can adjust any of the inputs and it is not only flexible enough to easily fit your situation, but it is very easy to use.
It only takes a few minutes and they are some of the most important few minutes you can spend.
Don’t fail to plan for retirement. If you do, you and your significant other will live with the consequences for decades. Consider that the average lifespans for men and women age 65 are now 22 and 24 years respectively. Consider also that Social Security will only replace 40% of your current income on average. So, if you don’t get saving, the default is living on 40% of your current salary for more than 20 years. Good luck with that.
That’s a real shame when your employer will often match some of your retirement plan contributions and you can put away money easily before tax and before you see your paycheck.
Don’t stick your head in the sand. Get on over and check it out. At least get the facts. Then, if you have questions, call your HR Department or call me (Dave Hoshour – 704-698-1040).
Get it done.
